Jelena Jankovic progresses beyond the first round at the Australian Open for a 12th consecutive year by beating Japan's Misaki Doi 6-1 6-2.

Jelena Jankovic has progressed beyond round one at the Australian Open for a 12th consecutive year.

The former world number one booked her place in the last 64 with a straight-sets victory over Japan's Misaki Doi.

Jankovic hit 20 winners and made 19 unforced errors en route to recording a 6-1 6-2 victory in 74 minutes at Margaret Court Arena.

She will face another Japanese player next if Ayumi Morita overcomes Ukraine's Nadiya Kichenok.
