Canadian number one Milos Raonic is through to round two of the 2014 Australian Open after beating Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver 7-6 6-1 4-6 6-2.

Four breaks of serve were shared in the opening set, which eventually went the way of 11th seed Raonic, who prevailed 7-2 in a tie-break.

After a very close first set, the second was fairly one-sided as Raonic won 29 of 44 points, including 12 of 16 on his serve.

Both players won 27 points in a competitive third set, which Gimeno-Traver edged courtesy of a solitary break.

Raonic then went up a gear in the fourth, recording eight aces, 12 winners and just five unforced errors to secure his place in the second round, where he will face Romania's Victor Hanescu.
