Milos Raonic battles past Tommy Robredo

Canada's Milos Raonic overcomes injury to claim a 6-3 3-6 6-3 victory over Tommy Robredo in the third round at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Milos Raonic has secured a spot in the quarter-finals at the Monte Carlo Masters after battling to a 6-3 3-6 6-3 win over Spain's Tommy Robredo.

The Canadian needed the trainer on court in the first set after struggling with an apparent foot problem, but he overcame the issue to get an early break, which was enough to secure the set.

Raonic's mobility appeared even more restricted in the second set though, allowing Robredo to come inside the baseline and attack from the net to open up a 4-1 lead.

The fourth seed tried to put his opponent under pressure during his service games, but Robredo made the most of Raonic's struggles by using the whole court, eventually allowing him to level the match.

The players appeared well matched in the third, sharing the opening six games, but Raonic's pain seemed to ease, allowing him to wrap up the final three games in a row in quick succession.

The victory sets up a last-eight meeting between Raonic and the winner of the third-round match between Tomas Berdych and Roberto Bautista Agut.
