Andy Murray hopeful of US success

Andy Murray believes that he is in good shape to challenge for titles during the US hard-court season.

Andy Murray has claimed that he is confident of success in America as he prepares for the hard-court season.

The world number three returns to the ATP Tour for the first time since Wimbledon in the Washington Open, and Murray believes that his form is in good shape as he bids for success ahead of the US Open, the stage of his first major triumph in 2012.

"One of the things I spoke about at the beginning of the year was consistency. That has been a positive," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"The year as a whole, there has been some progress. Hopefully I get on a good run now on the hard courts to the end of the year.

"I haven't actually hit a ball on a hard court since Miami. That has been four or five months. This morning was the first time that I started to feel more comfortable on the courts, get used to them again."

Murray will face Teymuraz Gabashvili or Benjamin Becker in the US capital on Wednesday.
