Alexandr Dolgopolov is through to the third round of the Rome Masters without a ball being hit as Stanislas Wawrinka is forced to retire.

Alexandr Dolgopolov has made it through to the third round of the Rome Masters due to the retirement of Stanislas Wawrinka.

The game was over before a ball was even hit as Wawrinka was forced to withdraw from the competition with a sore thigh.

Dolgopolov will be able to have plenty of rest time before he faces world number one Novak Djokovic in the next round for a place in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Wawrinka set up today's clash against Dolgopolov following a three-set win over Carlos Berlocq.
