Lucie Safarova through to Connecticut Open final

Czech tennis player Lucie Safarova is through to the Connecticut Open final after beating Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets at New Haven.

Fourth seed Lucie Safarova has secured a place in the final of the Connecticut Open after beating Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets.

The Czech got off to a strong start, breaking her opponent's serve in the opening game of the match, while comfortably holding her own service games through the first set.

Tsurenko fought hard to try to keep herself in the opener, but could not force Safarova to face a break point, before dropping another service game.

Safarova appeared to be heading for a comfortable win when she broke her opponent in the opening game of the second set, but Tsurenko hit back straight away.

At 4-4, Safarova forced a string of errors from her opponent to go a break up again, but she was unable to hold to serve the match out, allowing the Ukrainian to take the set to a tiebreak.

Safarova attacked at the net to get a lead in the breaker though, before wrapping the match up with a couple of points on her own serve.

The French Open runner-up will face either Caroline Wozniacki or compatriot Petra Kvitova in the final.
