Bernard Tomic stuns David Ferrer to reach third round of Shanghai Masters

Bernard Tomic stuns seventh seed David Ferrer in straight sets to reach the third round of the Shanghai Masters.

Bernard Tomic has ousted seventh seed David Ferrer from the Shanghai Masters by claiming a 6-4 6-2 victory in the second round of the tournament.

It was a perfect start for the Australian, who recently had charges of trespassing dropped by police, as he went up a double break.

Ferrer struggled to find his rhythm as he could only muster two break-point opportunities before going 5-2 down, but he was able to convert a point in the next game to snatch serve.

It was not enough for a comeback though, as Tomic took the set before breaking serve immediately at the start of the second set.

The momentum was firmly in Tomic's court as he broke again to go 4-1 up, and then managed to save five break points, leaving him with just one game to complete the match.

The Australian managed to see out the set, while Ferrer could only put two games on the board.
