Andy Murray watching diet as he heads into US Open third round

Andy Murray is keeping a close eye on his diet as he heads into the third round of the US Open.

Andy Murray has revealed the subtle changes to his diet that he hopes will help stop the cramps that have plagued the British number one recently.

The Scot eased his way into Saturday's third round of the US Open, defeating Germany's Matthias Bachinger 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.

"I have changed a few things, not so much what I'm eating but what I'm drinking. I'm making sure I have enough fluids down me and take a bit more salt to see if that helps," Murray is quoted as saying by IOL Sport.

"There are little one-gram sachets of salt in the restaurant I take. The conditions are tough and you need to make sure you are on top of everything before matches so you don't get caught out.

"I don't weigh food but I weigh myself three times a day - when I get up, normally after practice, and before I go to bed. I know exactly what my weight should be in the morning and in the evening."

Murray will now face world number 96 Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia in the third round.
