Eugenie Bouchard forced to withdraw from US Open doubles due to head injury

Eugenie Bouchard withdraws from the women's and mixed doubles competitions at the US Open on medical advice after sustaining a head injury in a fall in the locker room.

Eugenie Bouchard has been forced to withdraw from the women's and mixed doubles competitions at the US Open after suffering a head injury in a fall.

The incident took place after her victory in the mixed doubles alongside Nick Kyrgios yesterday when she slipped in the locker room and struck her head.

The 21-year-old has been evaluated by medical staff and on their recommendation, she has decided against competing in the tournament today, allowing her and her partners' opponents walkovers into the next round.

A statement from US Open tournament director David Brewer said: "Eugenie Bouchard is withdrawing from both the women's doubles and mixed doubles competition at the 2015 US Open.

"Following the competition yesterday evening, Ms Bouchard slipped and fell in the locker room and sustained a head injury. The severity of the injury was and continues to be assessed by the on-site medical personnel at the US Open.

"The medical staff has recommended that Ms Bouchard withdraw from today's competitions, and Ms Bouchard is following that advice. No determination about competing in the singles competition has been made at this time. Ms Bouchard will continue with medical evaluation and treatment for the remainder of the day."

No decision has yet been made on whether Bouchard will play in her singles match on Sunday against Roberta Vinci.
