Tim Henman is confident that Andy Murray can win the US Open with the absence of Rafael Nadal.

Former British number one Tim Henman has backed Andy Murray to break his Grand Slam duck at the US Open.

Henman believes that Murray, who lost in the Wimbledon final to Roger Federer but beat the Swiss at the Olympics, is in with a great chance after his Olympics win and the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal.

"Andy played so well at Wimbledon and then beat Roger Federer to win an Olympic gold so his confidence will be very high," The Mirror quotes Henman as saying.

"The conditions always suit him in New York and it can help him that it is away from the intensity and pressure of Wimbledon.

"If he is going to win his first Slam which, with Rafa out, he has every chance of doing, it might be better to do it elsewhere. So why not in New York?"

Murray reached the US Open final in 2008 but lost to Federer.
