Andy Murray insists that a US Open exit awaits him if his performance does not improve.

British number one Andy Murray believes that producing a similar performance to the one he did against Robin Hasse yesterday would see him exit the US Open.

Murray trailed his Dutch opponent 7-6 [7/4] 6-2 after two sets, but hit back 6-2 6-0 6-4 to advance through to round three at Flushing Meadows.

Despite sealing progression, the 24-year-old has revealed that he must improve against Feliciano Lopez in the next round.

"I'm going to need to play better on Sunday or I'll be going home," Murray told a press conference after the match.

"You know, you can't come through four or five matches like that. I'm going to need to play better, for sure. Physically I'm good. I feel fine. No pain or aches or anything. So that's a huge positive. I'm sure on Sunday I'll play better."

Should Murray defeat the number 24 seed, he will take on either Donald Young or Juan Ignacio Chela in the last 16.
