Venus Williams has secured her place in the second round after victory over Russian Vesna Dolonts.
The American came through the match by winning two straight sets 6-4 6-3 in the Arthur Ashes Stadium.
Despite the convincing win, the 31-year-old started the match slow after being broken by her opponent in the fifth game of the first set.
The former US Open champion resumed form and broke the 22-year-old before serving her way to triumph.
Williams is likely to go up against Wimbledon semi-finalist Sabine Lisicki in the second round at Flushing Meadows.
