David Ferrer has secured his place in the third round of the US Open by beating fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista-Agut.
The world number five, who was a beaten semi-finalist to Novak Djokovic at Flushing Meadows 12 months ago, claimed an early advantage by coasting into a 6-3 win in the opening set.
The world number 54 refused to make it easy for his compatriot though, as the 24-year-old twice recovered from a two-game deficit to set up a tie-break, before winning 7-6 to level matters.
However, the resurgence appeared to be short-lived, as Ferrer claimed the third set 6-1, before sealing his passage to the next round with a 6-2 win in the fourth set.
