Maria Sharapova cruises past Sabine Lisicki to advance

Maria Sharapova earns her place in the fourth round of the US Open with a comfortable victory over number 26 seed Sabine Lisicki.

Number five seed Maria Sharapova has cruised into the fourth round of the US Open with a straight-sets victory over Germany's Sabine Lisicki.

The 2006 champion started the match strongly and quickly earned a break on the number 26 seed, and secured a second to take the first set 6-2 in 40 minutes.

In the second set, Lisicki hit back to break Sharapova twice her first two service games and held 3-1 lead, before the Russian came storming back to claim victory in a 6-4 win.

The 27-year-old will now face Caroline Wozniacki in the fourth round of the tournament.
