Andy Murray praises coach Ivan Lendl following his long-awaited success at Wimbledon.

Andy Murray has said that he is pleased to have captured the Wimbledon title for his coach Ivan Lendl, who was a losing finalist twice at SW19.

Wimbledon was the only Grand Slam tournament that Lendl did not win during his 24-year career, with Boris Becker and Pat Cash getting the better of him in 1986 and 1987 respectively.

However, Murray believes that his three-set triumph over Novak Djokovic today will provide some closure to the eight-time Grand Slam champion.

"Ideally he would have won it himself, but I think this was the next best thing for him," the 26-year-old told BBC Sport.

"He believed in me when a lot of people didn't. He stuck by me through some tough losses the last couple of years. He's been very patient with me. I'm just happy I managed to do it for him."

Murray is the first British man to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.
