South Africa's Richard Murray: 'I can compete with Brownlee brothers'

South African triathlete Richard Murray is confident that he can compete with Team England duo Alistair Brownlee and Jonathan Brownlee at future events.

South African triathlete Richard Murray has insisted that he can compete with Team England duo Alistair Brownlee and Jonathan Brownlee.

The two brothers comfortably finished first and second in the triathlon at the Commonwealth Games this afternoon, but Murray is confident that he can match the pair at future events.

"I knew third position would be achievable. It was a bit tactical from them halfway through the ride and eventually I knew that first and second position was out of the question," Murray told reporters.

"They are really really good, but I have beaten them before this year and I can beat them again. I take every race as it comes.

"It was very smooth. There were less athletes this time, it wasn't too bad. The bike course was tough, but I was pleased with how I performed."

Alistair Brownlee's winning time was one hour, 48 minutes and 50 seconds.
