Lindsey Vonn hails "special" World Cup victory

Lindsey Vonn says that she has responded well to her critics, after winning the World Cup super-G title for the fifth time.

Lindsey Vonn has spoken of her delight at winning the World Cup super-G title for the fifth time in her career.

The 30-year-old won the last race at the season-ending finals on Thursday to equal Ingemar Stenmark's record of 19 crystal globes.

It was her 67th career race win and helped to extend the women's record that she had broken earlier this season.

"I never imagined I'd have so many," Vonn is quoted as saying by The Guardian.

"To tie with Stenmark is pretty incredible. Even though I have 19, these two are probably the most special of all of them.

"Pretty much everyone didn't think I would be back. For myself, for everyone who doubted me, this is a pretty good answer."

Vonn is the most successful American ski racer in history and has claimed gold at the Olympic Games and the World Championships.
