Coronation Street actress Julia Goulding has admitted that she is looking forward to seeing her character Shona begin to rekindle her romance with husband David (Jack P Shepherd) in the coming months.
In episodes airing next week, Shona makes a dramatic return to Weatherfield after recovering from a brain injury that left her unable to recognise David or his family.
Corrie producer Iain MacLeod recently revealed that Shona will still not remember David when she is back on the cobbles but hinted that the couple will eventually reunite for a "happy ending".
"It's nice to know that there's going to be challenging times ahead because I think they always work really well together when they've got something to overcome," Goulding told the Daily Star. "Seeing at the end of it that there could be a happy ending, it's nice, it's a warm fuzzy feeling. I'm really looking forward to doing it.
"They're basically starting from scratch and he's got a bit of an uphill struggle because she's really stepping back from him because she doesn't know him, and is being told he's her husband. I think it's gonna require a lot of team work from them and I think it's gonna be really lovely, hopefully, to fall back in love.
"Starting from a very plain ground, but I'm looking forward to it, it's going to be really nice."
Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
