BBC iPlayer records busiest ever day

BBC iPlayer reports its busiest ever day due to the Prime Minister's address, Killing Eve and Normal People.

BBC iPlayer racked up a record 22.5 million requests on Sunday, the corporation has announced.

The streaming service has enjoyed a surge in demand during the coronavirus lockdown but reached new highs at the weekend as Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled his 'unlockdown' plan for the UK.

The address was requested 1.1 million times via iPlayer on Sunday night, while requests for shows including Killing Eve, The Nest and Normal People helped push the daily total to 22.5 million.

Normal People alone has now been requested more than 28 million times since its launch at the end of April, with 3.13 million requests for the first episode.
