Tenet poised to pass $100 million mark worldwide
Epic thriller Tenet is expected to cross the $100 million (£75 million) milestone at the worldwide box office this weekend.

Christopher Nolan's Tenet is poised to pass the milestone $100 million (£75 million) mark at the worldwide box office.

The twisty thriller is the first major movie to be released since the cinema industry was shut down by coronavirus and its performance is being watched closely by the major studios as a benchmark of what to expect in the coming months.

Last week the film enjoyed a strong opening at the UK box office, bringing in more than £5 million, and this weekend it has opened in the US, Russia and China.

According to Variety, Tenet has pulled in $20 million (£15 million) so far in China this weekend, while it is expected to register a similar figure in the US, despite cinemas in New York and California still being closed.

The combined figures will push the movie beyond $100 million this weekend - around half of what it cost to make - with studio Warner Bros. said to be hopeful that it will be a slow burner and eventually bring in more than $450 million (£339 million).
