Courteney Cox signs up for Scream 5

Courteney Cox will reprise her role as Gale Weathers for the highly-anticipated new instalment in the Scream franchise.

Courteney Cox has confirmed that she is on board for the upcoming fifth movie in the Scream franchise.

The new film arrives 10 years after the last movie and will see Cox return as news reporter Gale Weathers, joining former husband David Arquette as police officer Dewey.

Neve Campbell - the primary target of Ghostface in the last four movies - is expected to sign up to reprise her role as the long-suffering Sidney Prescott but has not yet been formally confirmed for Scream 5.

The script for the new film - the first without the late Wes Craven - comes from James Vanderbilt, who has previously penned The Amazing Spider-Man and Zodiac.

Coronavirus restrictions pending, filming on Scream 5 is due to get underway in North Carolina within the next few months.
