Joe Wicks wanted by government to lead PE review?

Education secretary Gavin Williamson is reportedly keen to get Joe Wicks involved in a review of the national curriculum for PE.

Joe Wicks is reportedly wanted by the government to oversee a review of the PE national curriculum.

Schools across the UK have been closed to most pupils since the UK entered coronavirus lockdown in March, during which time Wicks has attracted an audience of millions with his free daily PE lessons on YouTube.

According to The Mirror, education secretary Gavin Williamson is keen to capitalise on Wicks's popularity with children by getting him involved with a review of physical education in schools.

"Having seen first-hand the impact Joe has had and his online reach and influence – especially to the younger generation – they feel bagging Joe to help them on their mission to combat obesity could be very successful at reaching the government's targets over the next two to five years," a source told the newspaper.

"Joe's positive impact has put him on the radar of thousands of teachers and senior figures within education. Gavin Williamson has been leading the dialogue around how Joe is able to carry the message of the importance of physical education."

Schools in England will begin to reopen to select age groups starting from tomorrow, although Wicks has given no indication yet that he intends to bring his daily workouts to an end.
