The Arizona Cardinals have confirmed that Kevin Kolb has been released from his contract with the side.
It has been reported last week that the quarterback would be cut after the NFC West side signed Drew Stanton.
The 28-year-old had been due a base salary of $11m (£7.3m) in 2013, including a $2m roster bonus.
The former Philadelphia Eagles player has been plagued with injury since moving to the Cardinals in 2011.
Kolb has been linked to a move to the New York Jets.
