Torrey Smith surprised at Mike Tomlin fine amount

Torrey Smith says that the $100,000 fine handed to Mike Tomlin sends a strong message about conduct to the rest of the NFL.

Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith has expressed his surprise at the size of the fine Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has been handed by the NFL.

Tomlin was handed a six-figure fine on Wednesday for his role during a game
between the two sides, in which he appeared to try to impede Ravens returner Jacoby Jones while he was running down the sideline.

When Smith was told of the amount that Tomlin has been asked to pay, he told reporters: "Oh! $100,000? That's tough. That's a lot of money. The incident is funny now because we won but if we'd have lost I admit that I'd have definitely blamed him.

"I can't say he did it on purpose though but it sends a message to the league. We can say he did it on purpose but we don't truly know. He did nothing crazy."

Smith also said that Ravens coach John Harbaugh will learn from Tomlin to make sure he never commits the same crime that his opposite number did.

"Coach Harbaugh stands right on that line," Smith added. "I think he'll be taking steps back now he knows that there could be a $100,000 fine coming his way!"

The Ravens won the game 22-20 and now have a 6-6 record in the AFC North.
