Buffalo Bills general manager Doug Whaley has revealed that wide receiver Sammy Watkins was the highest-rated player on their board for the 2014 Draft.
Several teams and experts put Jadeveon Clowney as the outstanding prospect in the Draft, and it was no surprise when the 21-year-old was selected first overall by the Houston Texans.
However, Whaley has admitted that if the Bills were selecting first they would have picked Watkins.
"Clowney was just slightly behind him," Whaley told NFL Network. "When he was gone number one, it was a no-brainer. It would've been a decision [if Clowney were there]. But the way we ranked them, it was Sammy first."
The Bills traded up to the fourth pick to select Watkins out of the Clemson Tigers.
