Chicago Bears defensive end Ray McDonald has been arrested on domestic abuse and child endangerment charges.
The 30-year-old was detained in Santa Clara following an incident on Monday morning and was taken to a local precinct.
McDonald was also arrested in August 2014 on felony domestic violence charges, but prosecutors decided against formally charging the 30-year-old for the incident, and he went on to play a full season for the 49ers.
However, he was released by the San Francisco 49ers last December after being named as suspect in a case of sexual assault.
Despite the past incidents, McDonald agreed a one-year deal with the Bears in the early stages of the off-season, but his future at the NFC North club has now been put in jeopardy.
The defensive end has recorded 210 tackles, 19.5 sacks and one interception in his eight years in the NFL.
