Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis has been given a one-year extension to his contract with the team.

Lewis's previous deal was due to expire after the 2014 season, but a third straight AFC North title and playoff appearance has earned the 55-year-old a year extra at least.

He is the longest-serving coach in Bengals history and has also won more games than any other coach for the franchise, and team president Mike Brown is optimistic about the future under Lewis.

"Marvin has earned this commitment for the job he is doing. We are one of only five teams to qualify for the playoffs the last three years, and our prospects are bright looking ahead," Brown is quoted as saying by ESPN.

"Marvin is driven to achieve more and we are happy to secure his leadership of our team beyond the coming season."

Despite being in charge of the team for 12 years, Lewis is yet to chalk up a playoff win having lost all five of his post-season appearances.
