Calvin Johnson set receiving record with broken fingers

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson reveals that he played the 2012 NFL season with three broken fingers.

Calvin Johnson has revealed that he broke the NFL's receiving record in 2012 despite having three fractured fingers.

The Detroit Lions wide receiver recorded 1,964 receiving yards last year, beating the previous mark set by Jerry Rice.

The 27-year-old told reporters: "I had a couple injuries to them, yeah. Nothing that's going to prohibit me from doing what I've got to do.

"I don't blame any drops or anything like that on it. It's just part of the game. Had a heck of a season with it and I'm just fortunate to be in that position.

"During the end of the season last year, there were a few games here and there where one play could have made a difference. We've got some pieces that I think can help our offense where we can make that one more play at an important time in the game."

Despite Johnson's individual success, the Lions finished the 2012 season with four wins and 12 losses.
