The hosts extended their lead midway through the quarter when they were rewarded for choosing to go for the touchdown on fourth and goal, with Trent Richardson finding the gap to reach the endzone from two yards.
Adam Vinatieri made the gap 17 points before the opening quarter was out, but Josh Scobee reduced the deficit back to 14 with his side's first score of the day - a 37-yard field goal early in the second.
Vinatieri kicked another field goal in the dying seconds of the half to make it 20-3 to the Colts, leaving them still in with a shout of claiming a first-round bye in the playoffs.
