Jerod Mayo undergoes knee surgery

New England Patriots star Jerod Mayo undergoes knee surgery and is ruled out for the rest of the season.

New England Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo has undergone surgery after suffering a torn patellar tendon and he has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Mayo played in just six games last season before tearing a pectoral muscle and he was then placed on the injured reserve list.

The 28-year-old only managed six games again this season and he isn't expected back until OTAs and minicamp next year if the Patriots choose to keep him on the roster.

It is the same tendon tear that ended the season of New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz last weekend, with the Patriots medical staff revealing that this type of injury results in a more difficult recovery and rehabilitation process.
