New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross has admitted that he made a mistake in allowing the Indianapolis Colts to score their first touchdown in a 20-12 pre-season win last night.
Ross appeared to be in a perfect position to intercept a misjudged pass from Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, but the ball popped out of his hands, allowing Reggie Wayne to catch it in the end zone.
Ross acknowledged that he should have caught the ball, but claimed that the stadium lights got in his eyes and was happy that it did not happen in a regular season match.
"I knew it was a pick. I saw it leave his hands and then as soon as I looked up, the lights just took the ball away," Ross explained to reporters. "I couldn't see anymore and that's what kind of made me fall.
"As soon as I fell back, it hit my hands and it kind of shocked me. So it just popped up and I turned around and Reggie was catching the ball. One of those plays you can't get back.
"It was one of those plays you're happy it happened in the pre-season and not the regular season."
The Giants, who have a 1-1 record in pre-season so far, will face the New York Jets in their next warm-up match on Saturday.
