When the sides met earlier in the year, the Giants needed a last-minute touchdown to overcome the Redskins.
The two teams looked well matched in the first two quarters.
Robert Griffin III fumbled in the opening period, but the ball flew to teammate Joshua Morgan, who ran in to the end zone to give the home side the lead.
A Martellus Bennett touchdown, the Giants' only one of the game, ensured that the reigning Super Bowl champions went in ahead at half-time.
Scottish kicker Lawrence Tynes extended the lead for the Giants in the third quarter.
However, Pierre Garcon, who received for over 100 yards during the game, scored a touchdown to level the scores in the fourth, Kai Forbath kicking the extra point to restore the Skins lead.
The win leaves the in-form Redskins just one win behind the division leaders.
The game also saw RG3 beat Cam Newton's record for most rushing yards by a rookie quarterback in a single season.
