Antonio Cromartie: 'Richard Sherman has to cover the best'

New York Jets' Antonio Cromartie believes that Richard Sherman has to cover the best wideouts in the league to become the best cornerback in the NFL.

New York Jets' Antonio Cromartie has told Richard Sherman that he has to cover the best wide receivers in the NFL to be considered the number one cornerback in the league.

The Seattle Seahawks defensive back has carved out a reputation as the leading player at his position in the league due to his exploits over the past three seasons.

However, Cromartie feels that his teammate Darrelle Revis and other players such as Patrick Peterson and Joe Haden deserve more praise because they follow the best players around the field rather than covering one side of the pitch.

"Go play in a defense where you don't have two All-Pro safeties. Go follow the number one receiver," Cromartie told Sirius XM NFL Radio. "Follow him around for a whole entire game and see what you can do. Darrelle Revis has done it his whole career.

"I've done it, Patrick Peterson has done it, Joe Haden has done it. He's the only defensive back that hasn't. There's no point in critiquing him. If you want to label yourself as the best corner in the NFL, follow the best guy on every single team.

"His whole thing will be 'we don't have to do that, I have my trust in the other corner on the other side.' That's not the point. If you want to consider yourself the best, the best do what the best do and they follow around the best. And that's what we're all getting to."

Sherman has recorded 224 tackles, one sack and 24 interceptions in his four years in the NFL.
