New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan has confirmed that Geno Smith will be his side's starting quarterback for the 2014 season.
The second-year player was in a battle with veteran Michael Vick, who joined the Jets in the off-season, but Smith's performances in pre-season have seen him retain his spot for the upcoming campaign.
"[Geno] has done everything that we have asked," Ryan told reporters. "And again this is no slight to Mike Vick.
"Because believe me like I said, I wanted to come out of this knowing that we have two really good quarterbacks and we think we can win games with.
"And in my heart I feel that we have two that we can win with."
The Jets open their season against the Oakland Raiders on September 7.
