The New York Jets are poised to make a run at signing Chicago Bears quarterback Josh McCown during free agency, according to a report.
McCown performed well for the Bears last season as he deputised for the injured Jay Cutler, throwing 13 touchdowns to just one interception in his eight games for the club.
The Jets are keen to add a veteran presence to their roster at the quarterback position to compete with Geno Smith for the starter's role after his inconsistent rookie season for the club, reports the New York Daily News.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan refused to confirm that Smith would be his starter earlier this month.
