New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan says that he is happy with quarterback Geno Smith's conditioning, despite a reporter labelling the rookie "embarrassing".

Rex Ryan has said that Geno Smith's conditioning "seems fine", despite a report labelling the rookie quarterback as "embarrassing".

An NFL Network reporter used the term to describe the second-round draft pick's performance during the New York Jets' conditioning drills at the weekend.

"He seems fine to me. When he ran for 80 yards that one play he looked good to me," NFL.com quotes the Jets' head coach as saying.

Smith added: "My coaches are the ones who are evaluating me, so I haven't heard that from them so I don't have anything to say to that."

Smith is competing with Mark Sanchez to be the team's starting quarterback for the 2013 NFL season.
