Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes says that he was "pretty upset" with his side following Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes said that he was "pretty upset" with his side following Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Red Devils put in a spirited performance at Anfield, leading 1-0 before having to come from 2-1 behind to secure a share of the spoils against the division leaders.

Amad Diallo's 80th-minute effort was enough for Man United to claim a point, and it was arguably their best performance since Ruben Amorim's arrival as head coach.

Fernandes admitted that he was "pretty upset" after the match, as the club captain questioned why his team were unable to perform to that level on a weekly basis.

Man United claimed a deserved point at Anfield

"We have been criticised and fairly. Our position in the table says it all, we have lost too many points. Even today we can't be happy with a point. We need the points and we could've won the game at the end, but it's a fair result. Both teams played good football," Fernandes told Sky Sports News.

"I'm pretty upset. If we show this level at Liverpool, first in the league, why can't we do this everywhere? It frustrates me. Also, finally I did a proper performance. We said we need much more from ourselves to get more from this season.

"Being 2-1 [down] then scoring it's good to get a point but we need more. Now we have an FA Cup tie at Arsenal and it is going to be very tough but we want to get to the final again.

"We know how tough it is to play against Liverpool. Today we put in a real effort to the game, playing with some passion and heart is what is going to give you something from the game. You have to put in effort and that's why we took something from today.

"It can't stop here, We have to bring this frustration to the next game to understand this has to be the level. If we can do it an Anfield, we have to do it everywhere."

What is next for Man United?

The draw at Liverpool has seen Man United rise one spot in the Premier League table to 13th, with the Red Devils now one point behind 12th-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

The 20-time English champions will be back in action against Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup next weekend, before facing Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion in successive home games in the Premier League on January 16 and January 19 respectively.
