Rex Ryan confirms that Mark Sanchez will be the starting quarterback for the New York Jets on Sunday after Greg McElroy hid concussion symptoms.

Rex Ryan has said that he was stunned after learning that quarterback Greg McElroy had hidden concussion symptoms from the team.

The New York Jets head coach has confirmed that Mark Sanchez will return to the starting quarterback role for the final game of the season on Sunday against the Buffalo Bills.

Ryan told reporters: "Greg McElroy was lifting and experienced headaches. Come to find out that Greg wasn't exactly truthful with our training staff after the game. He never disclosed any symptoms after the game to our trainers.

"Right now he's being evaluated for a concussion, and with that there's no way I'm going to play him, there's no doubt. I don't care what the tests say, we're going to err on the side of caution there.

"I was stunned by it. He came in and, look, I admire his courage and everything else, but you have to be truthful, and I think that's a lesson learned here, with the medical staff.

Sanchez led the Jets to a 48-28 win over the Bills in the opening game of the season.
