The Pittsburgh Steelers and Ben Roethlisberger have begun renegotiating the quarterback's contract with the side.
The AFC North side have 10 players taking up over $100m (£66m) in salary cap space next season, with almost $20m being taken up by the two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
The 30-year-old still has three seasons left on his current contract with the Steelers.
It is expected that a new agreement will be in pace by the end of the week.
