The San Diego Chargers are out of the playoff race after losing to the Carolina Panthers.

The Carolina Panthers recorded consecutive wins for the first time in the 2012 NFL season, beating the San Diego Chargers 31-7.

Mike Tolbert rushed for two touchdowns against his former team in the first quarter.

DeAngelo Williams caught a 45-yard pass from Cam Newton to round off an action-packed opening 15 minutes.

Steve Smith added the Panthers' fourth touchdown in the third quarter, before Antonio Gates prevented the shutout for the Chargers to score in the fourth.

The loss officially ends the Chargers chances of making the playoffs, while the Panthers have only pride to play for.
