Tottenham transfer news: Spurs 'discussing' £79.2m striker transfer amid Arsenal competition

North London transfer derby: Spurs to rival Arsenal for £79.2m PSG man?

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly discuss a deal for Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani, who has also been linked with North London rivals Arsenal.

Tottenham Hotspur have apparently held internal discussions over the signing of Paris Saint-Germain's Randal Kolo Muani but are yet to firm up their interest with an approach.

While PSG are flying high at the top of the Ligue 1 table as expected, Kolo Muani has only played a bit-part role with a meagre two goals and one assist in 14 games in all competitions.

The 26-year-old has started just two games in the current top-flight campaign and has not made the first XI once in the Champions League, totalling just 103 minutes in four substitute appearances in Europe.

Kolo Muani's Parc des Princes contract does not expire for another four seasons, but the French champions are expected to give the green light to a loan and potentially a permanent exit in January.

PSG's stance has apparently put a host of clubs on red alert, most notably Arsenal, who are searching for attacking reinforcements following injuries to Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Raheem Sterling.

Aston Villa are supposedly set to discuss an audacious swap deal involving Kolo Muani and Jhon Duran too, but according to Ben Jacobs, Tottenham have also thrown their hat into the ring.

Jacobs adds that PSG ideally want to get Kolo Muani off the books permanently this month, although they could entertain loan offers with an obligation to buy in the summer.

Tottenham are just one of several sides tipped to move for the former Eintracht Frankfurt and Nantes attacker, but while his name has been mentioned in conversations, no bid has been tabled yet.

The aforementioned Villa, Juventus, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich and AC Milan are also said to be running for Kolo Muani's services, but Chelsea are not expected to make an official proposal.

Kolo Muani has only managed a modest 11 goals and seven assists in 54 appearances for PSG, who paid Frankfurt a mammoth €95m (£79.2m) to bring him back to his homeland in 2023.

Where would Kolo Muani fit in at Tottenham?

Despite briefly dabbling in wing play in the past, the 6ft 1in Kolo Muani is a centre-forward through and through, and a spot might open up in Tottenham's number nine ranks this summer.

The injury-plagued Richarlison was heavily linked with a departure last summer, which did not materialise, but speculation will no doubt heat up again at the end of the season following the arrival of Dominic Solanke.

The England international should continue to act as Ange Postecoglou's first choice even if Kolo Muani arrives, meaning that Tottenham may not be the destination for him if he wants guaranteed starts.

However, if Postecoglou sees a future for Kolo Muani out wide, opportunities could arise for the Frenchman next season, when both Timo Werner and Son Heung-min - out of contract this summer - may no longer be at the club.

The latter has been linked with a shock free transfer to Barcelona, but he is expected to have his 12-month contract extension triggered soon.
