Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider has revealed that the club are waiting on running back Marshawn Lynch to decide on his future in the NFL.
The Seahawks have reportedly offered the 28-year-old a new contract to keep him with the team for the foreseeable future, which includes a $10m (£6.55m) payment for the 2015 season.
However, Schneider has conceded that the club are unsure whether the player wants to return to the league to extend his nine-year career.
"Whether or not he wants to play next year, I can't answer that," Schneider told KIRO-AM. "I don't know if he knows at this juncture.
"Obviously we think he's a hell of a player. We want to have him back, he knows that, his representatives know that. He knows that if he's back he's not going to be playing at the same number he's scheduled to make.
"It's hard for these guys, it's a long season. We've played a lot of football these last two years. Especially the way this guy runs the ball, it's taxing on his body."
Lynch recorded 1,306 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns for the Seahawks in the 2014 campaign.
