Mike Shanahan: 'San Francisco 49ers dominated us'

Mike Shanahan says that the Washington Redskins were "dominated" in a way they haven't been before by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night.

Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan has labelled the San Francisco 49ers as the toughest team his side have faced this season.

The 49ers comfortably overcame the Redskins on Monday night, with Shanahan's offense picking up just 22 yards in total after half time.

Shanahan told reporters: "We knew it wasn't going to be easy but that was the toughest defense we've faced this year.

"The did a terrific job on stopping both our running and passing game and they made some big plays. We haven't been dominated like that in the whole time I've been here.

"We're very disappointed. There's not a player or coach in our locker room who doesn't feel that. We must come back and fight and not dwell on this too long."

Shanahan's men made the NFL playoffs last season, but their hopes of repeating that feat have diminished as they sit on a 3-8 record at the bottom of the NFC East.
