Team England's Luke Cutts has revealed that he regarded compatriot Steven Lewis as his "enemy" when the duo went head to head in a jump-off for gold at the Commonwealth Games this evening.
Both Cutts and Lewis battled it out for the gold medal at Hampden Park this evening having been left as the last two men standing in the pole vault competition.
Lewis ultimately claimed the top prize by making a jump of 5.55m, while Cutts failed to make 5.60m, but the Yorkshireman insisted that he was still happy at having picked up the silver medal.
"What more can I say - silver medal at the Commonwealth Games, I'm happy about that. It doesn't get much closer when you get down to a jump-off at the Commonwealth Games. I tried my best," Cutts told Sports Mole.
When asked whether it was tough coming up against his England teammate, he added: "It's no different, but you're not teammates any more. You're enemies. He's another competitor so you've got to take him as an enemy."
Cutts endured a disappointing campaign four years ago in the Delhi Commonwealth Games, and he revealed that his success in Glasgow was even more special due to his failure to record a jump in 2010.
"I didn't want to mention that! Yeah, it does [make it more special]. I should have got a medal in Delhi but I didn't so I'm well happy that I got one here today," he added.
Canada's Shawnacy Barber completed the podium by picking up the bronze medal.
