Team England sprinter Adam Gemili has said that his silver medal at the Commonwealth Games this evening will act as a big stepping stone on the way to the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
The 20-year-old was behind only Jamaica's Kemar Bailey-Cole in a thrilling 100m final at Hampden Park, picking up his first senior medal in front of a raucous crowd.
He acknowledged that the result was a major milestone for him on the way to the Olympics in two years' time, and hopes that it will help him to become more established as a senior athlete.
"It's a big stepping stone, being able to get myself in amongst the medals and compete at a senior level. [I'm] just trying to establish myself more as a senior runner," Gemili told Sports Mole immediately after the race.
"Juniors was two years ago, and the World Juniors that have just gone, there were some unbelievable times there. So I'd like to be more established as a senior athlete, and this is a great stepping stone in doing that."
Gemili will have a chance to add to his medal tally this weekend in the 4x100m relay, and he also told Sports Mole that Team England are capable of challenging Jamaica and Usain Bolt for the gold medal.
