Team England sprinter Adam Gemili has insisted that he didn't put everything into this afternoon's 100m Commonwealth Games heats, despite posting the fastest time in qualification.
The 20-year-old set the benchmark by crossing the line in 10.15 seconds, a tenth of a second shy of his personal best.
"I went out there, really executed the first half of my race and then eased up a bit for the second half to save as much energy as I can," he told reporters afterwards.
"I probably should have eased off a bit more actually. I think my coach will probably tell me that, but I'm fit enough to hopefully come back tomorrow and make the final."
Gemili's English teammates Richard Kilty and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey also qualified for the semi-finals.
