Adam Gemili fastest in 100m heats, but 'wasn't at 100%'

England's Adam Gemili insists that he "eased up" during qualifying for the men's 100m semi-finals, despite posting the best time of the heats.

Team England sprinter Adam Gemili has insisted that he didn't put everything into this afternoon's 100m Commonwealth Games heats, despite posting the fastest time in qualification.

The 20-year-old set the benchmark by crossing the line in 10.15 seconds, a tenth of a second shy of his personal best.

"I went out there, really executed the first half of my race and then eased up a bit for the second half to save as much energy as I can," he told reporters afterwards.

"I probably should have eased off a bit more actually. I think my coach will probably tell me that, but I'm fit enough to hopefully come back tomorrow and make the final."

Gemili's English teammates Richard Kilty and Harry Aikines-Aryeetey also qualified for the semi-finals.
