England's Amy Whitehead: 'I gave it everything I could'

Amy Whitehead reflects on her ninth-place finish in the women's marathon with pride after 'giving it her all' in Glasgow.

England's Amy Whitehead has insisted that she "gave it everything I could" to secure a top-ten finish in the women's marathon at the Commonwealth Games.

The 35-year-old runner completed the course with a time 2:35.06 to finish ninth in the standings.

"I felt really good and I just ran really fast," Whitehead told reporters. "I started sensibly and followed that really well. I really wanted that top-ten place and I'm just pleased to have hopefully done people proud. I gave it everything I could.

"I just need to work to get in that front group now, I'm not quite quick enough to go with them. It would be nice to get that little bit quicker."

Kenya's Flomena Cheyech Daniel won the race.
