BBC coverage of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is likely to be disrupted next week as staff plan strike action in a dispute over pay.
The industrial action will start at midday on Wednesday, July 23 and run until midnight, potentially affecting the production of the opening ceremony as well as the BBC's radio and TV services.
BBC members of the National Union of Journalists, media and entertainment union Bectu and trade union Unite voted for the strike action, as well as a boycott of staff appraisals and a work-to-rule starting from midnight on July 24, according to The Guardian.
Michelle Stanistreet, general secretary of the NUJ, is quoted as saying: "Journalists across the BBC are not prepared to put up with paltry pay deals any longer. While those running the corporation continue to enjoy their lavish salary and perks at the same time as dishing out lectures about the need for staff to 'get austerity'."
The corporation has reportedly offered a 1% pay rise to staff earning under £50,000.
