Asafa Powell romps to 100m victory

Former Olympic champion Asafa Powell sets a time of 9.98s to win his quarter-final in the Jamaican Athletics Championships.

Asafa Powell booked his spot in the semi-finals of the Jamaican Athletics Championships by easing to victory in the 100m on Thursday evening.

The 32-year-old set a time of 9.98s to keep alive his hopes of winning a first national title in four years.

He finished ahead of Olympic silver medallist Yohan Blake, who came second with a time of 10.24s.

Kemar Bailey Cole, Nesta Carter and Nickel Ashmeade also won their heats to make it through to the semi-finals.

World champion Usain Bolt had been expected to run, before eventually deciding to withdraw from the event.
