Anita Wlodarczyk dominates on way to hammer throw gold

Poland's Anita Wlodarczyk breaks the World Athletics Championships record twice on her way to a dominant gold medal in the women's hammer throw.

Anita Wlodarczyk produced a dominant performance to power to World Athletics Championships gold in the women's hammer throw this afternoon.

The Pole became the first woman to throw over 80m in the history of the sport earlier this month, and she surpassed that distance twice more in Beijing to set two Championship records.

Her biggest throw was 80.85m, just 23cm short of her own world record and almost five metres clear of her nearest challenger on the day.

Great Britain's Sophie Hitchon could not make the podium at the Bird's Nest Stadium, but she did break the national record with a throw of 73.86m.

Home favourite Zheng Wenxiu picked up silver, while France's Alexandra Tavernier claimed the bronze medal.
